Being surrounded by nature and off the beaten track, it’s no wonder Wollondilly comes to mind when people are looking at natural lookouts and walking tracks to explore close to Sydney.

Perfect for the nature or walking enthusiast, city siders will feel a million miles away exploring what Wollondilly has to offer. If you are looking for somewhere new or showing off your local NSW turf to ‘out-of- towners’, put on your walking boots, pack the camera and uncover some of the Dilly’s most glorious views.

Ladie’s Waist Lookout

If you’re looking to escape and encounter more native animals than people, then add the Ladie’s Waist Lookout to your list. This particular lookout is the prize at the end of a Buxton fire trail that will take approximately 4-5hours to complete. The track is moderately challenging and perfect for hiking, running and leisurely walking (or a combination of all 3!).

The W11 Firetail can be accessed via Buxton Avenue.  Remember to pack sunscreen and water and unfortunately for this one, your four legged friends will have to stay at home.

Burragorang Lookout

Burragorang Lookout is a very popular spot in the Dilly.  Just a few steps from the car park you will find a viewing platform positioned high above Warragamba Dam overlooking the lake. The area is home to an abundance of flora and fauna such as the noisy black cockatoos and shy lyrebirds often found scratching amongst the leaves.

The kids will be taken care of by the playground and surrounding bike tracks along quite sealed roads. Be sure to pack a picnic and make use of the free BBQs and picnic tables for a picturesque lunch in the bush. If you’re thinking of visiting the lookout later in the day, time your arrival with an evening sunset for a sight to behold.

Don’t forget to pack water and a picnic, but again furry friends will have to sit this one out.

Wollondilly Lookout

Suburbia couldn’t feel further away when gazing out from Wollondilly Lookout admiring the magnificent mountain and lake views of Nattai National Park. The lookout is located along Wombeyan Caves Road and is accessible via a car park.

From the lookout point you’ll take in incredible views of sandstone cliff ridges and eucalypt forestry. It’s also known to be a great spot for bird watching.

Picnics welcome, pets are not.

Razorback Lookout

Razorback lookout is a more ‘non-descript’ hidden gem in Wollondilly. From the lookout you will capture natural views over the rolling fields and cows munching away on the grass. Razorback Lookout is especially stunning at sunrise and sunset where orange, yellow and pink tones take over.

Access to the lookout is via Remembrance Drive, just before the turn off to Donald’s Range Road.

Pets are welcome on leads and can go for a walk around surrounding streets.

Before you go…

Please note that some of these areas or surrounding bushland may have been impacted by fire or floods and will be regenerating back to their former glory.
