It sadly looks like Wollondilly will be sticking it out in Lockdown for a little while longer. But to keep spirits high and stop our families from going stir crazy, we have put together some easy activities to keep you inspired and busy around the house all while supporting local businesses at the same time.

We are so lucky to have so many amazing local businesses and places to explore in the outdoors all across Wollondilly. Why not use your enforced downtime to support your businesses, local community and #LoveTheDilly.

Challenge your Family to a Board Game Show Down

If you are a parent in 2021, you probably remember the “old days” when having a night in and playing board games was the highlight of your weekend. Now is the perfect time to bring that tradition back any day of the week!

Challenge your family to the classics like Monopoly, Cluedo, Mouse Trap or The Game of Life. The Kids Cottage Toy Boutique in Picton stock a selection of board games and fun family activities and are open for pick up. If you are a fan of the puzzle we have them right here in the Dilly too.

Explore the Outdoors

Getting out for a walk has probably become a part of your daily routine in lockdown but it’s important to keep things interesting and explore different places (within your local area of course). We are so lucky that the Dilly is packed with parks, reserves, sportsgrounds and playgrounds to get outside and enjoy the fresh air.

Below are a few ideas for somewhere new. If you’re looking to bring your furry family members, check out our Pack Your Pooch Blog listing all of the dog friendly spots in Wollondilly.

Lin Gordon Reserve Oaks Road, Thirlmere
Bents Basin State Conservation Area Wolstenholm Avenue, Wallacia
Wilton Recreational Reserve 20-30 Broughton Street, Wilton
Telopea Park 57 Buxton Avenue, Buxton
Picton RSL Park Argyle Street, Picton

Create your own Paint & Sip Studio

Shake things up and transform your lounge room into a paint and sip studio for an afternoon of art. Select a bottle or two from your closest independent bottle shop such as Dome Cellars or Local Liquor Thirlmere and select some canvases and art supplies from That Office Place or House Warehouse Tahmoor and you’re set! Pick an object in your house, a pet or even each other and create a masterpiece while enjoying a delicious drop.

Treat yourselves to a Gourmet Dinner

What do you get when you cross supporting a small business and taking a night off cooking and the dishes? A very happy household! Enhance the experience by getting out a tablecloth, lighting a few candles, popping open a bottle of wine and cranking up some music. And there’s no reason you can’t swap your slippers for your regular going out clothes to feel like you’re out at a restaurant and the world has returned to normal (if only for a few short hours).

A number of local businesses are offering gourmet takeaway feasts for the whole family such as Picton Social and Vaby’s Restaurant.

Create a Veggie Garden

With an unconfirmed end to lock down, it’s safe to say you’ll be looking at your backyard every day for some time to come. So why not spruce it up a bit? Planting a veggie garden is a great activity for the kids and if you source your plants and seedlings in Wollondilly, you’ll be supporting a local business as well.

Tahmoor Garden Centre and Thirlmere Wholesale Nursery are still open for business. Top up your mulch, add some pebbles, or order some soil and garden mix from Picton Sand & Soil or Mark’s Landscape Suppliers Bargo who are delivering!
