Spring is the best time of year to get out in your garden, clean out the house, try a new recipe and immerse yourselves in the great outdoors. Although movement is pretty limited at the moment, there are many Covid safe activities to try and local businesses you can support.

Refresh Your Wardrobe

Out with the old and in with the new! Get ready to exit lockdown feeling and looking fresh with a new and in season wardrobe. The beauty of online shopping means that even when shop fronts aren’t open you can still browse and purchase from the comfort of your own home. Many of our fabulous fashion forward local businesses are still operating through delivery and click and collect. Check out Nala + Wild, Ruuska, Jackstar Clothing, Quarryman Surf and more.

Experience Bird Watching

Spring is migrating season for our feathered friends meaning it’s the perfect time to get outdoors and try bird watching. Pair your bird watching experience with a bushwalk and you’ve got a great family day out lined up. Some great areas for bird watching in the Dilly include Thirlmere Lakes National Park, Bargo River State Conservation Area and Nattai National Park. When it is safe to travel call in and meet Eddy & Holly Emu at the Australian Wildlife Sanctuary.

Pack a Picnic

The start of September welcomes warmer weather and longer afternoons, perfect for enjoying a picnic (once restrictions are eased of course). Pick up some local produce and enjoy the wide open spaces, free BBQ facilities and playgrounds at one of our parks and reserves such as Telopea Park (picture), Appin Skate Park, Picton Botanic Gardens and Wilton Recreational Reserve.

Be sure to keep an eye on restrictions and availability of recreational facilities due to Covid-19.

Plant Some Herbs

Spring is a great season to get your herbs in the garden so when summer rolls around your home grown produce will be flourishing. Herbs that enjoy being planted in the spring weather include basil, chives, dill, mint, oregano, coriander, parsley, sage and thyme. Tahmoor Garden Centre and Thirlmere Wholesale Nursery are operating throughout lockdown and are fully stocked with all your herb and garden needs. Top dress your lawn or tidy up your garden beds with a layer of mulch ready for the warmer months ahead.  Picton Sand & Soil and Mark’s Landscape Supplies are equipped to deliver all sized loads across the Dilly.

Find & Paint Dilly Rocks

Some of our creative Wollondilly locals have been busy in lockdown and have created a great little local initiative, Dilly Rocks. You’ll find gorgeous rock artworks hidden in parks, playgrounds and reserves all across the region just waiting to be found (or re-hidden). Get involved either by heading out on an adventure to go rock hunting or have a go at painting your very own.

Catch a Sunrise

Your spring bucket list must include catching a Wollondilly sunrise at least once. It might be hard to drag yourself out of bed but the gorgeous views will make it all worth it and leave you surprisingly refreshed to tackle the day. If you aren’t an early riser and can’t be convinced, you can certainly opt for an equally as spectacular sunset view. Burragorang Lookout and Razorback Lookout are two top spots to experience the world waking up. Be sure to upload your sunrise snap and #VisitWollondilly.

Plan Your Summer Road Trip

And for those who can’t quite get to us right now, your spring to do list wouldn’t be complete without planning a summer trip away to the Dilly when travel restrictions lift.
