One of the best ways to experience the rugged beauty of Douglas Park Gorge and Weir is by taking the scenic drive between Douglas Park and Appin. As the road winds through the landscape and crosses the Nepean River, enjoy views of sandstone escarpments, waterways and untouched bushland.
The Nepean River crossing is a popular local spot for swimming, kayaking and canoeing. The stretch of river between Menangle and Douglas Park is particularly renowned for its picturesque scenery, with paddlers passing wooded riverbanks before reaching the impressive gorge where rock walls rise up to 80 metres above the water.
The causeway and weir provide a convenient access point to the river, although parking is limited to a small sandy roadside area. Visitors should take care during wet conditions, as the ground can become soft and muddy. Additional parking is available at Nepean River Reserve near Menangle for those exploring other sections of the river.
Before you visit: River conditions can change significantly following rainfall. Visitors planning to paddle should check conditions before setting out and exercise caution around the weir, causeway and river access points.
