Thirlmere Railway Museum

Thirlmere was named after a lake in Cumberland, England. Today it is known for its Railway Museum and the nearby Thirlmere Lakes National Park. Each year, the town celebrates the traditional start of the steam season culminating in an annual festival.

Thirlmere Lakes offer swimming and canoeing as well as a very scenic location. These are among the last undisturbed freshwater lakes in the Sydney region and have a unique marine life. You are asked to take care and consider the delicate ecology of the system. A cycleway links Thirlmere with Tahmoor.

The Thirlmere Lakesland & Surrounds Driving Tour Brochure highlights the town's buildings, events and surrounding areas. The brochure is free and available from the Wollondilly Visitor Information Centre.
