Over the years, present day Tahmoor has had many names including Myrtle Creek, Bargo West, Cordeaux, Bronzewing Park and finally Tahmoor, a local aboriginal word meaning "Bronzewinged Pidgeon".
Although it is a modern town, Tahmoor has intriguing pockets of history, nature and general interest. It boasts the oldest house in the Shire, the Travellers Inn, now privately owned.
Tahmoor has the largest population for the Shire and has recently enjoyed a main street beautification enjoyed by locals and visitors to the area.
